And So It Goes…
A wise old monkey once said – Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. It seems lessons not learned in 2009 come home to roost in 2010. While there is much to be hopeful about, it is not the time to be complacent. The severity of our education will be in direct proportion to our ongoing commitment to short-sighted self-interest and stupefying acts of ignorance. What else is there but bemusement?
In 2009, celestial omens pointed clearly and emphatically to the need for change. Copenhagen should have been spectacular. Consequently, we are passing out of an era when technological and social innovation could have lead to major advances for communities and the environment. Instead, we are entering a period of history where Mother Nature may be forced to take the issue into her own hands. If humans won’t redress the balance by curbing excess pollution and greed, then She most certainly will. 2010 has “Karmic Adjustment” written all over it. It may feel as if we are hitting the planetary re-boot button. The question is - how harsh will be the corrective? Lost opportunities for sustainable progress and balanced development are on the table once again from May to July of this year. After that, there are no more chances.
The major planetary news for 2010 involves a volatile constellation of major players in the early degrees of Cardinal signs. Saturn completes his journey through Virgo and officially resides in Libra-land. Pluto is powerfully transforming all issues (think institutional, corporate and governmental) to do with the sign of Capricorn, and Uranus is about to enter Aries. When these forces face-off through the middle of the year, highly reactionary energies come into play. The archetypal forces of contraction and transformation meet up with the impulse for liberation and radical change. While this could spell the beginning of a major period of growth and global achievement, the agonizingly slow way we are reacting to global climate change suggests otherwise. Eclipses in late June and mid-July push the button. The future is in our own hands collectively. From mid 2010, The Universe ups the ante.
Uranus in Aries ushers in a whole new phase of scientific and cultural evolution. This is the planet of higher knowledge and collective change, when great leaps forward occur courtesy of Promethean moments of insight. The last time we saw Uranus in this sign was 1927-1935. Those years brought us the rise of fascism and collapse of economies in the West, as well as major scientific breakthroughs and the Chinese Civil War - eventually leading to the emergence of a new global super-power. Jupiter joins Uranus mid-year and comes along for the ride. 2010 looks slated for some incredible innovations. But we also revisit troubling epochs when war-wongering and technical prowess merged to create political machines of catastrophic ferocity.
A special mention goes out to September 2010. A curious lunar phenomenon rears its not-so-pretty head. Some of the defining moments of the first decade of this century have been accompanied by a peculiar lineup between the Moon’s Nodes and a mathematical point in space called Lilith. 9/11, the US plan to invade Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, and the GFC all occurred as Lilith was trine the Nodes. Lilith and the Nodes can be understood to symbolize the Hand of Fate. We can tell how well we are doing collectively by looking at what transpires when these forces align. September stands out as a revealing moment to show us how far we have really come.
On a personal level, Saturn in Libra requires justice and diplomacy. All persons born with the Sun in Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn are taking a good long look at themselves. Think sober thoughts and embrace maturity. Air signs can make pragmatic steps in desired directions while Taurus and Pisces people benefit from something they have to give up. Sagittarians and Pisceans receive the cosmic blessing of Jupiter in the sign of the Fish, and Aries get ready to blast through stagnation and delay. The principle of equity and balance is the theme this year.
Will we continue to live out an eye-for-an-eye, or have we managed to learn greater wisdom through enlightened self-interest and social compassion? The Future is in our hands.
For a personal look at your year ahead, request a consultation.
Aries: With Saturn opposing you in Libra it’s time to take stock. You may feel as if you are standing still, with the tide running out and your mojo going with it. Rest and recognize this as a natural state of being. The balance to all your pioneering ways is a reconnection with other people. Get together and figure out how you can mutually move forward. June through August is extremely stimulating. Tend well the new seeds that sprout up at this time.
Taurus: As Saturn moves through the Zodiac, so too are the days of your life. For April born Taureans, embrace what can be gained by giving up. Saturn says balance the books by allowing yourself to relinquish what really wants to leave. May Taureans have more time to cling on. Yet rumbles beneath your feet this year are a premonition of what’s ahead in 2011. October is the time for Taurus to renegotiate standard contracts.
Gemini: Finally the heat is off. Gemini folk can start to ease up as the tension moves from mutable signs. Saturn helps put structure into long-term projects and Uranus moving through Aries favours the inventor in us all. May-born Gems are busy paying attention to the details and June Gems are standing on their mark. 2010 favours the quick and the brave so jump to it when great ideas cross your doorstep. Imagine yourself as The Spirit of The Times and network accordingly.
Cancer: As one of the Cardinal bunch, 2010 spells extra responsibility. No more shirking in the shadow of emotional days-gone-by. This year is one to cut the mustard. The New Year begins with an eclipse in your sign and the theme of radical change goes all the way through. Move into more potent realities by examining your attachments to the past. With a planetary power-pack building toward mid-year, you should strategize accordingly. Choose your objective, shed the old and walk toward it diagonally. Crabs side-step beautifully.
Leo: Where has the limelight gone? With Saturn preoccupied in Libra, Jupiter no longer opposite your sign and Chiron finishing his way with you, the lights dim. 2009 was an excellent time to re-envisage your future. 2010 lets you implement all you have learned. Find balance by seeking co-conspirators to share your favourite projects with. If you still find yourself clinging to the notion that you are the centre of the world- beware. You will find yourself alone. 2010 is about the collective. Is it time you actually joined in?
Virgo: During the past two years, you became even more practical and efficient. Now as the world wobbles through a Cardinal threshold, Virgos are in their prime. Use the lessons learnt since mid 2007 to modestly show others the way. You reformed yourself beautifully, and with little or no fanfare. You are even more so a paragon of equipoise and economy. In 2010, balance is gained by working with it. Don’t be afraid to give your gifts freely. Ideally, you paid attention in recent years and now start to reap your rewards.
Libra: As the star of the Zodiac this year, you embody the Ideal. If the world was a Libran Utopia, what kind of place would that be? Give yourself a good once-over, then set about living up to such an exalted state-of-being. Saturn in your sign is strong and influential. Everyone benefits from your style, sense of justice and panache. September Librans take the lead by embracing due discipline and hard work. October types look gorgeous and hold the scales from the other end. Career profits, and relationships get real. You are insightful and in charge.
Scorpio: 2010 gets juices flowing. What may have felt like a stop-start of simmering potential through 2009 now opens to a fast-flowing stream. Saturn in Libra helps your ruler Pluto to implement change. Thus, you are resourceful, intuitive and to be reckoned with. Uranus in fellow Mars sign Aries suits you to a tee as all that is old and stagnant gets shaken to the core. Capitalize on surges of energy building now in the cosmos by working on long-range plans. Mid-year, consciousness makes a quantum leap forward. Plan to step up then as lesser mortals crumble and fall by the way.
Sagittarius: With Saturn tucked neatly in at the side in Libra, Sagittarians can focus on philosophical things. Balance comes by planning productively for the future while delegating (or accepting) responsibility. Jupiter in Pisces is exceptional for exploring the religious side of life. Rather than getting stuck in crusty ideas about a patriarchal god/principle, Sagittarians can reinvigorate themselves by exploring existential issues that develop faith and trust. Why do it unless it has meaning? You know all about that. 2010 is time to seek a new frontier- the journey starts within.
Capricorn: Around about now, you could be smirking just a little bit. Everything has Capricorn written all over it, which is music to your hard-working and long-suffering ears. Pluto in your sign is spectacular for those of you prepared to go the hard yards. Saturn in Libra augments success. The best-laid plans are those made in twos. When Uranus hits Aries in the middle of the year, the growth process gets rocket-fuelled. 2010 is all about balance. Effortlessly balance rampant ambition with practical realism for stunning results.
Aquarius: Did you get a little weary of hearing about how 2009 was meant to be your year? With all the hullaballoo and zeitgeisty ascension-talk, you could be forgiven for feeling a little more ordinary than otherwise expected. While 2009 put seeds in the ground, 2010 is when the seeds sprout. Balance comes through seeking collaborative opportunities and making dedicated moves toward your preferred time/space reality. Jupiter and Chiron leave your sign to teach lessons elsewhere and Saturn is helpfully placed in Libra. When Uranus goes into Aries mid-year, your guns are blazing. Aim truly in the first half year then find your target in the second. Aquarians do it slowly.
Pisces: How does it feel to experience cosmic bliss? Like sweet rain on a summer day, Jupiter enters Pisces to lighten your load. The first half of the year could be a little fantastical as he shoots from one end of Pisces to the next. All of you get a juicy boost of cosmic energy to uplift your tender hearts. Then he turns around and comes back again, bringing special help to those of you born mid March. In 2010, Pisces gets emotive so that love can find A Way. Balance is achieved by sacrificing something. Why not give up old habits of suffering and addiction, rather than parts of yourself?
