Craft is Cool

Astrology and the Art of Scrapbooking

In case you didn’t already know, craft is cool – again! Like a good idea that just wont go away, future runners lead the way by re-inventing The Tradition. New directions in cut, stitch and wool bring fresh perspectives to modern-day living. And astrology reveals just how versatile it can be when married to the art of scrapbooking.

Whilst the connection may sound obscure, the basic premise is simple. “Amplification” is a psychotherapeutic technique employed by analysts and psychologists since at least the mid 70’s. By using imagery and symbol sets, we gain knowledge of inner landscapes in an expanded and visual format. Scrapbooking is a term used to describe a similar process of image-making, linking visual forms to important life episodes, emotions and memories. These techniques can also be used to heighten our awareness of astrology. By ‘imaging’ the astrology chart, we access a powerful and enjoyable means of understanding the stuff which makes us.

This year, The Stitches and Craft Show will be hosting a unique series of workshops on astrology and the art of scrapbooking. This “craft lab’ will be unlike any other, and will take your ideas about scrapbooking into a whole new dimension. Damian Rocks has been invited to attend, and show other cool crafters how it can be done. Partnered by Eckersley’s Art and Craft and the very stylish Betty Diamond, this workshop is just one of a range of innovations introduced by new event organizers Living Creatively.

The first Show kicks off in Melbourne from March 11- 15th as part of The L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Workshop attendees will learn practical ways to combine astrology and scrapbooking. Participants can choose to embellish their own charts, or design one for a friend. The emphasis will be upon exploring the basics, whilst discovering fresh perspectives through the fascinating language of astrology.

The new and improved Stitches and Craft Show starts Melbourne March 11-15th, before heading to Brisbane 29 April-May 3rd and Sydney 19-23rd August. For information or to reserve your place visit http://www.stitchesandcraft.com.au/ or visit www.ticketek.com.au
