When love is written in the stars

The Lord works in mysterious ways- or so we have been told. That’s why He/She gave us astrology… To make sure we understand how amazing life can be!

Take, for example, the strange world of love and romance. Who amongst us can truly fathom the mysteries of the heart? Who can say what brings two people together, why they meet and then what binds them to a shared and deeper destiny? Whilst no one has the definitive answer, some people have more than a few clues.

Psychoanalyst and astrologer Liz Greene has argued that our relationships are our fate. They arrive in our lives to manifest for us those parts of ourselves that we need to experience and live out. Another way of saying this is that we tend to match best with individuals who reflect back to us in some way the fabric of reality that matches our own inner lives- persons cast of a same or similar thread. Astrology tells us when someone’s “weave” is warped in a similar way to match our own.

Take the case of star-crossed lovers Laura and Andy. Who would have known that they were, in fact, each other’s Fate? Introduced one night by a dark and handsome stranger, the two could sense something irresistible and enigmatic was starting to unfold. They were hypnotically drawn to something in each other, without knowing why. Did the stranger see something inside of them that they could not? Was it the hand of destiny at work here, or just sheer luck? Perhaps it was the Lord - manifesting those “mysterious ways”?

Of course, the stranger had no idea. He was, in fact, just a pawn in their fated romance. He may have sensed a simpatico between the two, but a need to meet set wheels in motion, way before the stranger came along. When you put the birth-charts of these two individuals together, some startling correspondences soon jump out.

Both of these individuals have an “Airy” disposition- meaning a tendency to take a logical, reasoned and objective stance toward life. This much anyone who knew them could know. But who was to know that their Moons happened to be placed almost exactly opposite from each other in the signs of Libra and Aries, whilst their Suns are happily ensconced in a convivial “trine” to each other in the intellectual signs of Aquarius and Gemini? On these grounds alone, Laura and Andy are good candidates for a romance.

But the glory of this Cosmic Weave is even more stunning than that. Laura has the sign of Taurus on her Descendant (DSC), a point in the chart which describes what someone tends to look for in another. Andy happens to have been born with Venus at exactly the same degree of Taurus as Laura’s DSC (25 Taurus)… He is likely to display exactly the kind of stable, loving and sensual qualities that Laura is looking for in a man. On the other hand, Andy has 17 Sagittarius as the degree of the zodiac rising over the eastern horizon when he was born- what is called his Rising Sign or Ascendant. Laura was born when the planet Mars was at the same degree of Sagittarius. She is likely to share the same kind of feistiness, and spirit of adventure symbolized by the sign of Sagittarius, as Andy does. This bodes even better for sharing passions and interests long into life. The astrology eloquently describes the duo’s interest in each other.

On a personal level, they can get from each other what they individually need. Laura’s chart talks of an individual with a high degree of independence and strong need for freedom, as well as intellectual rigour, in her life. She is likely to get this from Andy, who has lots of stimulating planets in Fire and Air signs. This helps to keep things interesting, and allows Andy the possibility for experiencing adventure with Laura that he will also need. The chances of two people meeting with such exact correspondences are mind-boggling in the extreme.

No doubt, these two will have their flashpoints, and will need to compromise. Yet with such compatible temperaments, they are likely to be able to resolve almost anything. In a very precise way, astrology describes how we, as individuals, are likely to frame or reference our reality. For successful, long term relationships, we need to partner with others who share our framework- those with whom we share an affinity. It is the underlying affinity between two people that most determines compatibility, and astrology has an uncanny way of bringing these tendencies to light.

Who would have known, when Andy met Laura, that these two were so cosmically aligned? For this pair of star-aided lovers, Fate brought them into each others arms. Yet what was the mysterious force at work, to set things up so precisely? And why then provide a detailed narrative of their relationship that can be read from the position of the planets and the stars? The answer, as they say, is out there, and Heaven only knows. Yet the study of astrology reminds us of just how amazing our universe truly is.
